Accessing BingSuns and Launching the Cadence Tools In order to access the Cadence Tools used within this course, you will need to log into the BingSuns servers. If you do not have or know your BingSuns account information, you will need to consult with ITS. If you already have an X11 server set up on your machine and can access your BingSuns account, skip ahead to Launching Cadence. In the following command-line examples, replace <username> with your BingSuns username. Windows If you are working in the PODS, Xcygwin is usually already installed and can be used as the X11 server. In a cygwin terminal, type: ssh –X <username>@bingsuns.cc.binghamton.edu If you are working off-campus or using your own PC/laptop, you will need to download an X11 server and an SSH client, since neither is included with Windows by default. My personal preference is to use Linux in a virtual machine (VM), which will be discussed in the following sub-section. The VM approach is much more stable and a cleaner user interface than the various free X11 server options available for Windows. Virtual Machine If you are already familiar with machine virtualization, you may already have a VM of Linux, and there is no need to download this one. The VM provided is simply a minimal installation of Ubuntu + Gnome. A tcsh script provides an alias for the SSH command used to connect to the BingSuns machines.
