Assignment: Bias, Rhetorical Devices, and Argumentation Write a minimum 500-word response to the following questions: What are some examples of bias, fallacies, and specific rhetorical devices in the speech? How did the speaker address arguments and counterarguments? Were the speaker’s arguments effective? Explain. In this speech, there are several examples of rhetorical devices and some bias and fallacies. The first example of a rhetorical device is when Senator Kane uses alliteration to get his audiences attention. Kane says: “I’ll do everything in my power to protect the underprivileged , the underpaid , and the underfed !” Here, Kane uses the same consonant sounds to demonstrate how he will help the people. There is also an example of hyperbole in this speech. He says “the downright villainy of Boss Jim W. Getty’s political machine.” This sentence, to me is a bit of an exaggeration, I’m sure. It is used in the right context and probably has some truth to it. However it is still hyperbole by definition.
