If someone made the following statements to you, how would you explain that the statements are misconceptions? Include whether you think most Americans believe these misconceptions, and explain why or why not. o Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders are a model minority. This is just not fair to say, just because they have kept to themselves and endured cruelty and discrimination silently, does not mean that these thing aren't happening. To say this is simply taking away from the struggles that these cultures have had to face. Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders, I'm sure, do not feel that they are a model of anything because they push harder than White folks do for half as much. Before the phrase, "Model Minority" came into my vocabulary; I guess I once thought of Asians and Pacific Islanders as "Model Minorities". I never saw a difference from White Americans to Asian Americans. I have always seen people as equals and have often struggled with peoples' racism and discrimination, mostly because I do not understand it. I DO believe that most Americans

I loved reading about how Filipinos are technically from the Spanish culture since they were ruled by them. It goes to show you that things are not always what they seem and assuming that all Asian American cultures are the same is just silly. Filipinos, Chinese, Japanese, etc, are rarely even similar in their cultural backgrounds. Their languages are different and their familial statuses are of different importances to each. I honestly cannot say if most people believe this misconception. I would hope that people were not so naive as to believe it. That's like saying every "White" culture is the same or every Hispanic culture. I would really hope that everyone would be open minded enough to at least see past physical appearance enough to see the differences in races and cultures....
