M M E E 1 1 2 2 3 3 : : S OLID W ORKS L AB Winter 2010 https://catalysttools.washington.edu/workspace/jhjones/9351/ 12/29/2009 Lab 2: Parameters: Introduce SolidWorks as a “Parametric Solid Modeler” Two types of Parameters: Geometric Relations: Describes how sketch entities relate using geometric parameters such as horizontal, parallel, concentric, etc. .. Dimensional Relations: Numerical value added to a sketch feature describing its size and/or location. Some parameters are automatically added when sketching so make sure you pay attention to your system feedback. Line coloration, p. 42, allows us to determine when our sketch is fully defined. Black: Fully Defined Red: Overdefined Blue: Underdefined Pink: No solution found Yellow: Invalid solution found Brown: Dangling relation Why do we need to fully define a sketch? Doing so allows for predictable and controlled behavior of our model, especially when editing. This helps us achieve our desired design intent.
