ME 123 Week 1 Practice Solutions 1. Explain what is meant by design intent. In class we discussed four ways to incorporate “design intent” into your model. Please use the figure to explain and illustrate at least three of these methods. Design Intent - is how your model will react when the dimension values are changed or the model is otherwise edited. Things that the designer deemed significant for a particular model (dimension placement, constraints, equations, modeling approach). i. The modeling approach. What is your base feature, what added features, will you take material away or add. In this case you could decide whether or not to start your sketch in the top/front/right planes. ii. Geometric relations (tangent, horizontal, concentric). For example, if you want the holes to always remain equal you can set up that relation. iii. Using equations to maintain relations. The location of the holes could be equidistant from each edge, etc. iv.
