Homework08 2. You have isolated a large number of C. elegans mutants that are uncoordinated (unc). Seven of these mutants (mutants 1-7) are recessive and you perform complementation tests with the following results: 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 1 - + - + - - - 2 - + - + + + 3 - + - - - 4 - + + + 5 - - - 6 - - 7 - a) How many genes are represented by the different mutants and which mutants are in which complementation groups? (9pt) Two genes. Group one: mutants 1, 3, 5, 7; Group two: mutants 2 & 4 b) You decide to concentrate your efforts on the gene represented by the most alleles and name it unc (wild type is indicated as unc+). Initial mapping experiments localize unc to the left arm of chromosome 2 near dumpy (dpy) and speedy (sdy). You perform a three point genetic cross: unc+ dpy+ sdy+ x unc dpy sdy unc dpy sdy unc dpy sdy to map unc relative to these genes and obtain the following results: unc+ dpy+ sdy+ 375 unc+ dpy+ sdy 2 unc dpy+ sdy+ 98 unc+ dpy sdy+ 12 unc+ dpy sdy 99
