Gupta, Shivali Lab Instructor: Corinne Townsend Lab Time: Friday, 10am Lab 9: Prototypes Basic Questions: 1. Describe what someone’s prototype for a dog might be like. Someone’s prototype for a dog might be that a dog barks. Barking is a unique feature of dogs that when heard by someone far away they might classify the animal as a dog. 3. How does a prototype model explain the prototype effect? A prototype model explains the prototype effect by supporting the fact that prototypes are used to classify objects that are never seen. When an individual describes an object he/she thinks about the prototypes that distinguish it from other objects before correctly naming it.
