Non-FDA approved dietary/nutritional supplement The non-FDA approved dietary/nutritional supplement discussed is St.John’s Wort. This supplement is among the top-selling botanical products in the United States and many brands are now available and sold over the counter as dietary supplements. Condition the supplement St. John’s Wort is used to treat and its goal of use St. John’s Wort is used in short term treatment of mild to moderate major depression. Major depression can cause distress and interfere with the ability to work, study, sleep, eat, and enjoy pleasurable activities. It is the most common type of depressive illness. The proposed or known mechanism of action of St.John’s Wort on the body. The most common side effects of St. John’s Wort includes dry mouth, dizziness, diarrhea, nausea, increased sensitivity to sunlight and fatigue. St. John’s Wort can also limit the effectiveness of some prescription medicines like antidepressant medicines and birth control pills. When combined with certain antidepressants, St. John’s Wort may also increase side effects such as nausea, anxiety, headache, and confusion. FIRST STUDY ON ST.JOHN’S WORT The hypothesis of this study is that St.John’s Wort is useful in treating depression. The alternative hypothesis of this study is that methods of relaxation such as meditation are useful in treating depression. This study was conducted using 340 participants with the average age of 42
