Bio 29.1 Transgenic plant Transformation naturally occurs when agrobacterium invades plants It must attach to the plant cell physically. Its easier to get into a wounded plant (scratch, abrasion…) naturally where bacteria would become attracted to. They are looking for a simple route into plant. If plant gets such an abrasion…, theres a natural healing response (hormones (5)…) bacteria sense these chemical signals and they go to that site. So we have a sensing mechanisms that activates some genes of the plant which the bacteria senses and invades and hijack by insterting its own geness/immune system to ensure its survival. Most of these chemicals would be at the roots, and the bacteria is naturally in the soil. There are receptors on ?? initially the binding of bacteria to plant cell is nonspecific but eventually it becomes specific (receptor…). The bacteria send out fibers which physically invade the plant cell, eventually genetic material and other factors get randomly inserted in the plant genome, and then it starts making the various factors to ensure that it will survive. Phenotype?
