Unformatted text preview: 1 of 85 Modeling and Simulation of Multidisciplinary Systems and Simulation of Multidisciplinary Systems Prof. Jason Vaughn Clark Mechanical Engineering Electrical and Computer Engineering Purdue University Simulation and modeling for product design is becoming increasingly and modeling for product design is becoming increasingly multidisciplinary. These disciplines may include mechanical, electrical, thermal, fluid, business, etc. Since products often have a superior performance when designed as a system rather than optimizing each component independently, today's design engineer finds it necessary to be technically competent beyond her or his core discipline. In this talk we will discuss a most recent method on system-level modeling. We begin with the first law of thermal dynamics and develop a differential algebraic formulation that can be used for multidisciplinary systems.
