Leah Schelling 8.2 Essay History 131 Andrew Jackson Andrew Jackson was the seventh president of the United States from 1829 to 1837, serving two terms. He served in the Democratic party, supporting states rights and believed in limited federal power. There were many things Jackson changed to presidency. One way he changed things was the Spoils System. With the Spoils System, Jackson removed appointed officials from the previous president and replaced them with people that he was in favor of. This came with some benefits, but it also came with some baggage. This allowed the President to appoint his supporters, which he should be allowed to do. This also came at a disadvantage, because sometimes supporters are not qualified to have that kind of power and responsibility. He also expanded the Veto power, showing how much the president has. Like any other president, they have the choice to veto. Jackson on the other hand, vetoed more than any of them combined.
