Feedback helps organ. Achieve their goals IS is helping business to become fully integrated Organize daily operations o EX: Wal-Mart Suppliers and distribution centers connected through IS system of computers Act as a command and control systems that monitor processes Information Concepts o Information is one of the most valuable and important resources to any organizations o Data Versus Information: Data: The raw facts, such as an employees name and number of hours worked in a week, inventory part numbers, or sale orders has little value beyond it self but when combined or rules and relationships added to it o it can be useful (information) Information: A collection of facts organized in such a way that they have additional value beyond the value of the facts themselves. When the facts/data is organized in a meaningful way it becomes information. Information doesnt just have to be shared within the organization but also to the customers. Type of information depends on Relationships of the data AKA data made more useful through application of knowledge Process: A set of logically related tasks performed to achieve a desired outcome. (turning data into information = a process) process requires Knowledge Knowledge : Is an awareness and understanding of set of information and the ways that information can be used to support a specific task or reach a decision. Aka the act of selecting or rejecting facts based on their relevancy to particular task The Process of transforming data to information T h e tr a n sf or m at io n pr o c e s s - apply knowledge --selecting--organizing--and manipulating data The characteristics of Valuable information o These characteristics stated in the chart arent just valuable to the managers but to the organizations too....
