The Russian Revolution of 1917 Historians have long debated the origins of the Russian Revolution of 1917. Some present the Revolution as the inevitable outcome of the country’s historical development. Others believe that the Revolution was a Bolshevik coup d’état that did not enjoy any substantial support among the population, that the Revolution was a historical accident that would have never taken place but for the destabilizing effects of World War I on the political situation in Russia.
