Unformatted text preview: Kwame Dawes considers himself a poet first and lets all of his other talents fall in line. He was born in Ghana in 1962 and educated in Jamaica most of his life. He is now a professor at the University of South Carolina. He has been teaching there ever since 1992. In the lecture he spoke about his life and some of his accomplishments. He told the group how his father was a trained musician but he never knew this until he was in his early teens. He never learned to really play an instrument until later on in life but he gave all of his 3 children music lessons at a very young age. Although he sees himself as a poet first he originally started off as a playwright. When he explained his mentality when he was writes a poem he said that he is writing down his experiences through himself or through other people. He puts himself in the eyes of someone else and writes himself or through other people....
