Hobbs, April Pahlas Bio1108L Comparison Essay 8 September 2009 Comparison Essay After examining a peer-reviewed journal and a general scientific article, I came across numerous amounts of similarities and differences within them. The articles being compared are, “Effects of Salinity on Growth of Several Aquatic Macrophytes” and “Saline Solutions?” The first article is a peer-reviewed article and the latter article is a general scientific article. Both articles effectively explain the effects of salinity on plants and its surroundings, but each article addresses the same issue in different ways. In the peer reviewed article, the author begins with an abstract. This abstract summarizes the entire experiment and its results. This abstract, although a summary of the data, is very complex and not written for the average person. The wording of the abstract is very scholarly and detailed. I believe it is largely directed toward scientists or people with some scientific knowledge. For example, it lists the salinities used in this particular experiment (Haller,1974). These concentrations of salt-water can not be easily interpreted by the average person. In the
