Frank Hager Introduction to the New Testament Reflection #10 April 30, 2010 The Passion of the Christ and the Gospels When looking at the relationship between the Gospels and Mel Gibson’s The Passion of the Christ , it is important to remember the difficult task that Gibson faced in summarizing all the Gospels. I picked this movie to write about because throughout my life, and especially throughout this course, I have often considered the reasons for the different portrayals of Christ in the Gospels. It is also interesting to analyze both early and modern Christian’s image of their Savior, Jesus Christ. Do they view him as the suffering Jewish Savior that Matthew writes about or the high Christology portrayed in Luke? In addition, they must take into account that Mark was probably used as a source for Matthew and Luke so their stories will be similar. In order to believe in Jesus, it must be important to establish one’s personal image of him from the collection of written works on him. Further, this brings up the question of relevant works which may exclude non-canon books such as the Gospel of Thomas.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
