Unformatted text preview: Many people think that stricter gun control laws would keep America safer, but gun control will never take firearms out of the hands of criminals and is a violation of our second amendment right. I. what is the pro gun control position? A. The USA has experienced recent gun-related tragedies, including the deaths of 14 students and 1 teacher at Columbine High School in Denver, Colorado in April 1999, and the death of 12 citizens by a trader in Atlanta, Georgia, in July of the same year. On 14 May 2000 (Mother's Day in the USA) hundred of thousands of mothers and their families held a Million Mom March in Washington, DC, the largest gun-control rally ever, and demonstrated in 70 other US cities. 1. No amount of legislation is going to fix the real problem. 2. Criminals are going to continue to act out violently. B. Solicitor General Elena Kagan told the court that the law is a "vital part of the nation's effort to fight international terrorism, 1. This is not an effective way of taking guns out of the hands of criminals and terrorists. 2. Criminals are not abiding by the same laws that the majority of people up hold II. Gun control in England was a bad idea. A. Nearly five centuries of growing civility ended in 1954. Violent crime has been climbing ever since. Last December, London's Evening Standard reported that armed crime, with banned handguns the weapon of choice, was "rocketing."
