The issue at hand is weather the U.S. should continue to administer the death penalty or not. There has been increasing controversy surrounding the topic due to a botched lethal injection in 2007. The deceased Diaz Angel’s injection went into his muscle tissue rather then his veins where it was meant to go. After this injection he was required to receive a second injection, and his death took 34 min. rather then the 20 min. that it usually takes. Despite the errors in this particular instance I feel that administering the death penalty to those who have committed first- degree murder is the one area where our system has things right. I feel that keeping a criminal in prison, who has committed murder, for a life sentence is a gross waste of taxpayer money. There will always be debate over the death penalty. Is it humane? Do the inmates suffer? Is the procedure fail proof? Is there a better way? Is it necessary? I know that my stance may seem cold, but these are people who have torn the very fabric of our society.
