Kelley Owens JOU 3372 – Speech Story October 9, 2007 The Importance of International Journalism In A Global Community International journalism is important in the global community, however many international journalists risk their lives every day just to cover one story. “I feel very strongly about international journalism,” said Faith Rice-Mills, a Baylor graduate and journalism major. Faith, whose primary focus is modern Spanish literature, has worked in Washington DC for a Spanish magazine called Hispanic Weekly. She would like to report on what is going on in Hispanic countries. “Mexico, in particular,” she said. “Because I am from Texas.” “This is what international journalism does for the world,” she said in reference to the fact that she wants to start an international journalism career. Every year, international journalists are killed for writing and publishing stories about specific countries. Daniel Pearl is one example that Faith gave in her speech. He was an American
