Current Events: Hundreds of Thousands take part in National day of Action to defend Public Education Hundreds of thousands of students and teachers held demonstrations across the country to try to defend public education against the budget cuts that are being imposed in many states across the United States. This was the largest day of coordinated student protest in years. More protests took place in California than in any other state where students face a 32 percent tuition hike. The protests were not just on college campuses but in elementary schools and in front of many government buildings. Student protesters blocked the states highways. This was broken up the police by force.
