Regardless of their location, endometrial cells have receptors for and respond to estrogen and progesterone. As a result they proliferate during the menstrual cycle and press on the neighboring abdominal tissues and organs. 2. Some people with gall stones develop pancreatitis. How could this occur? (3) If the gallstones are small enough they can pass through the common bile duct and block the pancreatic duct. Enzymes from the pancreas cannot get to the small intestine and accumulate in the duct and begin to irritate it producing pancreatitis. 3.
