Case Study Analysis UPS As a company that values efficiency above other metrics, UPS stands out as a pioneer and innovator in the domain of operational efficiency. Their ability to leverage networking technology in all levels of their operations has contributed to their mainstream success, across a wide variety of customers and industries. By dissecting its own value proposition, UPS (united parcel service) was able to narrow down key areas for improvement within their strategic process of delivering and managing the delivery of shipments. As a logistics service provider, the united parcel service positions itself as a corporate and commercial supply chain wizard. The purpose of networking technology is to simplify internal communications of a business while maintaining transparency. For a company as big as UPS, networking technology would be a vital tool in order to improve the flow of activities and take preventative measures against resource exhaustion and deference in lead times ( Ping, 2017 ). As a huge corporation spanning continents, it would be natural for UPS to invest $100 million, into optimizing the flows; data collections and employee procedures. By teaming up with HP computer company, UPS has invested greatly into building a large networking infrastructure unlike any other. Ups has implemented these changes in order to lower cost and provide a more affordable price point to its customers, which has enabled it to grow its customer base. Since the company manages a large client base it would be natural for it to try and reduce the frequency of error in its service by creating internal communications and networks that allow the sharing of important information that can reduce the risk for that error. This impact largely driven by the fact that the business’ value discipline is operational excellence was intended to create a smooth flow of data collection across the business in multiple operations ranging from packaging parcels, sorting parcels to delivering parcels.
