5. NUMERICAL EXAMPLE The centering pin mechanism in figure 1 will be used to demonstrate the use of the tool. In this figure, we have labelled some key tolerances from ta to tg. The mechanism features three parts with two functional conditions shown in figure 2. Table I presents some initial, manually generated values for the variables ta to tg. These initial values are all expressed as intervals in equation 5. In this example, the designer is being imposed a first FR1, related to the vertical centering of the pin, with a precision of ±1mm.
