In 1995 International Standard Organization (ISO) published a technical report [ISO/TR14638, 1995] on the Geometrical Product Specification giving an overview of the international standardization including the existing and future standards. On the basis of such document the ISO Technical Committee 213 started the Geometrical Product Specifications and Verification (GPS) project, aiming to a new technological system in the field of geometrical control of manufactured parts. Some of the results obtained within the GPS project are the conceptual background which justifies the applicability of the proposed methodology from a mathematical as well as from an industrial point of view. 1.1. The GPS project The scope of GPS project is the standardization in the field of macro and micro geometry specifications and the related verification principles, measuring equipment 169
