The conclusions of Salomons paper were on future research directions in CAT. He distinguished: tolerancing for non rigid bodies, clarifying the relation between physics of functioning and tolerances in order to improve tolerance specification, clarifying the relation between physics of manufacturing and tolerances in order to improve tolerance synthesis. Eight years after, the problems are still not solved although a lot of progress in research have been made. This paper focus on tolerance representation, the basis for a coherent and complete tolerancing process. It presents a unified solution to describe ideal and nonideal geometry of parts and assembly along product lifecycle.
