GT Specification During this phase the designer specifies GT on the basis of required product functionalities by attaching attributes representing datum and tolerance information (GT features) to the nominal shape represented by the 3D CAD model. In order to be able to completely represent the required GT features, the FoI CAD model data structure must explicitly represent not only the geometric entities that are part of the object boundary, but also implicit entities such as reference points, symmetry axis, middle planes, etc. Moreover, each GT feature type is linked to an inspection method defined on the basis of a reference standard (in our work we refer to the ASME 14.5 model).
