Ian CasePd 4 Woirol Rhetorical analysis “Is Banning Cellphones an Effective Policy? No” In her article “Is Banning Cellphones an Effective Policy? No”, published in the spring issue of the Toronto Star, Catherine Little argues that banning cellphones in schools to fix the cellphone use problem would be unwise. Catherine Little is a Canadian author who has written many opinion pieces on issues in public education and has authored the book “seeing complexityin public education” Little starts off her argument by touching on an earlier argument she had made about how cellphone use in classrooms had improved students learning capacities. Her article goes on to discuss real situations where the banning of cellphones was deemed ineffective, and how cellphones are needed for communication in case of disasters in public schools. Little continues her argument by claiming that “education has always been behind the curve when it comes to technology.” The rest of her argument is devoted to illustrating the hazards associated with restriction of technology use in a classroom setting and how banning cellphones would eventuate in more harm done than good.
