Bio 1510 Study Guide for Exam I Spring/Summer 2010 Instructor: Exam I will cover all of chapters 1-4 with the exception of those sections in chapter one we did not cover (namely, Section 1.3 and page 16 (7 th Edition), Section 1.3, p.8- 11 (8 th edition))—section on Darwin. No filling in of diagrams will appear on the exam, nevertheless, students are responsible for the basic structures of those molecules we discussed in detail. All structures that I identified in lectures as fair game for exams are fair game. Students who did not attend lecture are still responsible for everything, and anything said during lecture. I highly recommend the textbook website as a study tool. I’ve provided an external link on Blackboard. The following is not an exhaustive study guide, but should be helpful to the student who can elaborate on each of the questions listed Chapter I material: What are the seven necessary conditions for living organisms What do each of them mean What is meant by the hierarchical organizations of life and what are they What do science and philosophy have in common/difference What are the different forms of logic/reasoning What form of reasoning is used primarily by biological sciences What is meant by the scientific method, and what does it consist of What are the unifying themes of biology and what is meant by each
