Psych 310, Section 06 Sample Method Section This study examined whether the level of students’ disruptive classroom behavior would be different in the presence of teachers with different teaching styles. It was hypothesized that a teacher who appeared to be competent and knowledgeable would have a stronger influence than one who appeared to be a strict disciplinarian. Also, it was predicted that a teacher who appeared passive and more detached from the class would have less influence than the other types of teachers. *Remember: your Method section should be written in the FUTURE tense* Method Participants Three hundred high school students (150 girls, 150 boys, mean age = 16.5 years) participated in the experiment. All students were selected based on previous reports of disruptive classroom behavior that required them to be sent to the principal’s office for disciplinary measures at least five times in the 30 days prior to the beginning of the experiment. They were randomly assigned to one of three sections of a special arts-and- crafts program. They were given the option of spending an equal amount of time in a standard detention hall setting for their disciplinary violations rather than participating in this program; thus, their participation was voluntary (detention would not have been optional). In addition, they could leave the program at any time and complete the remaining time in detention; however, none of the students chose this option.
