Thermochemistry 16:57 Study of the relationship between chemistry and energy (NRG) Flow of heat Surroundings: The area outside of where you are studying (outside of the sys) System : (any area chosen by the investigator to be under investigation) the area, substances or compound that you are studying,  there are three types: Open system : Free exchange of energy and matter between the sys and  surroundings (bowl of soup) Closed system: exchange of energy but not matter between the system and  surroundings (when theres a lid but exchange is happening) Isolated system: no communication between energy or matter between the  system and the surroundings (eg. GOOD THERMOS) SYSTEM + SURROUNDINGS =  UNIVERSE ENGERY: Kinetic energy: o Energy of moving objects (distance from acting forces) o Thermal energy (eg. Tire heating up), Temperature is not thermal energy
