Who are they and how many are there? a. 1990-2007: About 1.0mm foreigners enter the US each year; 750,000 are from Asia and Latin America i. 1960-69: 321,000 ii. 1970-79: 425,000 iii. 1980-89: 624,000 b. Immigration accounts for about one-third of US population growth c. Most are temporary visitors (business and pleasure) d. About 2600 per day become citizens e. About 1400 per day enter/stay illegally f. There are about 37mm foreign-born U.S. residents (12% of U.S. population) i. 31% legal permanent residents who have become naturalized citizens ii. 39% legal immigrants iii. 30% illegal immigrants g.
