Katt Gonzales SCI 230 July 19, 2010 Checkpoint Cornerstones of Biology There are several different theories of Biology. They are the evolution by natural selection, inheritance, cells, biological classification, bioenergetics, homeostasis, and ecosystems. Evolution by natural selection has two parts. The first is over time evolution happens meaning the species change to adapt to their surroundings. In turn leads to the second part, species change based on evolution of their surroundings. Inheritance is when an offspring gains traits through its parents through genes. Cells are said to be preexisting. Therefore, many cells are said to be an organism. All organisms are made up of calls and were discovered with the great invention called the microscope. Biological classification is when organisms are put into groups by their similarities and their differences. Since Darwin was of some assistance to this term as well the classifications are now in accordance to evolution. Bioenergetics is that in which powers life. Energetic
