ECE 437 - Spring 2010 Available on Blackboard. This is an introductory course to the study of the properties of light in optical fibers and waveguiding structures. Topics include: Fundamental principles of electromagnetic theory, operation of optical fibers and waveguides, numerical simulations, emerging technologies in photonics, integrated novel photonic devices Time and Place Lec: MW 1:25-2:40 PH 219 Textbook The following book is also an excellent reference available in Cornell Electronic Library: B. Saleh, M. C. Teich, Fundamentals of Photonics. Prerequisites ECE303 or equivalent. Students must be comfortable programming in Mathematica or similar package.
