For Immediate Release New Living Earns B Corporation Certification Houston, Texas – New Living, a green building and home store, recently earned B Corporation Certification from B Lab, the nonprofit organization dedicated to using the power of business to solve social and environmental problems. In order to become a Certified B Corporation, companies must achieve a passing score of 80 out of 200 points on the B Ratings System, a set of social and environmental standards that evaluates not only the how a company’s product impacts its consumers, but also how the company impacts its employees, suppliers, community, and environment. In addition, B Corporations expand the legal responsibility of the company to include the interests of stakeholders as well as shareholders. “ The goal is to differentiate between a company that claims that it’s responsible and one that actually is”, said Jeff Kaplan of New Living. “The values advanced by B Lab and B Corporations represent a transformation of the way business is done”, Jeff Kaplan, founder of New Living, said. “By becoming a B Corporation, we
