Gabi Drusinsky Music 129D Assignment #2 The term “Balkan” means mountain, and it is used with the area that is now called  Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, and Macedonia. Events that affected the identity of the citizens of former Yugoslavia are the division to  six   equal   republics   (Slovenia,   Serbia,   Macedonia,   Croatia,   Montenegro,   and   Bosnia- Herzegovina), the “ethnic cleansing” (where Muslims were driven from their homes), the war in  Croatia   in   1992,   the   Dayton   agreement   (in   which   the   Bosnian   Serb   Republic   and   the  Muslim(Bosnjak) – Croat Federation were declared as two self-governing entities), and the  NATO air strikes, to name a few. All of these events affected national or ethnic identity by
