3 Part 1 Healthy love relations ships have three basic components based on Robert Strernburg’s triangle love theory (1988). The three basic components are passion, intimacy, and commitment. These three components are very important in making relationships last, as well as maintaining love in the relationship. Passion is explained as being the motivational component in the love triangle involving physical or mental attraction, and also sexual desire. Passion can diminish after a while in a relationship and some experience passion throughout the entire relationship. Passion is an important factor in healthy relationships because attraction mental or physical is what brings the individuals together in the first place. Intimacy in a relationship is described as the closeness that the individuals share together, trust in the relationship as well as sharing intimate thoughts or sharing wants, goals and dreams that each of the individuals have.
