1 English 110 November 19, 2008 Essay #4 How to Achieve the Value of Our Life? “We all die. What matters is how we lived” (95), Sharman Apt Russell states in “The Hunger Disease Studies.” She believes that the decisions we make today and their deliverance into the past keep the balance between the ephemeral nature of existence and the uncertainty of the future. We are born as unclad infants, and we are men with nothing to lose. Even though we cannot bring anything after we die, everything is stored in the substantial world. The steadfast spirit and the meaning of existence are not only the reasons and impetuses for surviving, but also the light that brighten our way of success. Human beings are delicate when we are dominated by nature. Nevertheless, the instinct of surviving enables us to change ourselves physically and mentally for different surroundings. The steadfast spirit and the meaning of existence we have are the great support for our surviving. A rigorous but meaningful life will not compel a man to death, but an affluent but meaningless life will end one’s life easily. During World War Two, the attic faith that was carried by the Jews so that their enemy could not destroy them became the only reason for them to survive. There is no denying that the human body is delicate in nature. All kinds of life-forms exist on the Earth, including plants and animals; are all weak and they cannot get rid of the fate of death. A square-built forest cannot get away from the destruction brought by a fire; a grand tall building cannot get away from the destruction brought by an earthquake, and the global warming which seems to raise the temperature by only several degrees makes an unimaginably huge area of land sink into the ocean.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
