Christine Le Fem St. 20 Sect. Wed 4pm 17 November 2009 Co-Curricular Write Up: Film BorderTown On October 28, we watched a film in the multicultural theatre titled Bordertown. This movie was based on the femicide in Juarez we learned in lecture and discussed in section. Jennifer Lopez played a very important role as a news reporter and later activist. Lopez reached out to the terrible femicide that was occurring in Juarez, Mexico and to the one victim. She, this victim, survived from being kidnapped and raped by bus driver after one night working in the maquiladoras. She faced severe injuries and encountered traumatizing events when trying to fight for retaliation. Because the government was so selfish on allowing the news to be publicized, police all over Juarez went on a search for this victim and her mother just to prevent the news from leaking. During the events and investigation of this femicide, a continuing number of girls continued to suffer, especially those that worked in the maquiladoras. In the movie, they
