Federalists Succeed because: 1) Organized – 100% support 2) Made Concessions a. Add Bill of Rights later -Madison sends letter to states asking what they’re proposals are known as the Bill of Rights. They received 250 letters; Madison narrowed it down to 12 and sent it. Only ten amendments were approved. A New Beginning -All Federalists loved the new Constitution -No national vote was taken for Constitution -If vote were taken, Constitution would have not passed -Hamilton-Federalist -Has a specific vision -Wants America to be a manufacturing country -Encourages economic development, trade, business -When he becomes a government official, he tries to reduce debt -Comes up with plan called the Assumption Plan -Government assumes all country’s and state’s debt -Places tariffs on imported goods (imported German beer, etc.) -Encourages people to make things here, business -Requires strong, central government Jefferson (Democratic Republicans) -Has a different vision -Believes in agricultural specialization
