1     Chapters 7 and 8 differ slightly between the 6 th and the 7 th editions of the textbook by Serway and Jewett. Both chapters together have the same content in both editions; the material has only been reorganized. In these lectures, we will follow the 7 th edition.    A valid system may be • a single object or particle • a collection of particles • a region of space • varying in size and shape (like a rubber ball)
