Unformatted text preview: This lecture is NOT on the midterm  The midterm is tomorrow; please do not arrive to class late Essay-due Mar. 18 (in class) and by e-mail  1,500-1,750 words (double-spaced in 12- point font; please number your pages)  Must have a clearly defined thesis statement (argument) in the introductory paragraph  In the body of your essay, you must provide supporting evidence for your thesis You must use at least five scholarly sources  Textbooks, encyclopedias , and my lecture cannot be used  You may NOT use internet sources (you may, however, use journal articles obtained through online library databases such as Jstor and e- books from the Ryerson Library)  You may not use Wikipedia You must cite anything that is not common knowledge or your own idea (this means you must cite more than just direct quotes)  You must include in your citation: author, title and exact PAGE NUMBER(S)  You may use Chicago Manual of Style, MLA or APA  If you use parentheses (brackets), do not forget to include the page number Limit the number of direct quotes that you use– it is generally better to paraphrase (put in your own words) and CITE the source  You do not want your essay to be one long string of quotes  You must include a Works Cited or Bibliography, listing all the sources you used Organization is very important– put all similar...
