Page 2 Breast Augmentation According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons (2008), Breast Augmentation is the top surgical cosmetic procedure in 2007. With that being said, in today’s society some women believe that it is important to have full and voluminous breast. When thinking about having this procedure done it is important to remember that even though there is some risk with having the procedure, in most cases the benefits out weighs those risks. There are many reasons why women choose to have some types of cosmetic surgery on their breast. The Breast Augmentation procedure is what some women choose to correct any deformities that cause a woman to have insecurities about her breast. In most cases women decide to get this procedure because of reasons such as: pregnancy, aging or losing shape and volume due to weight loss. In other cases women choose to have this procedure because their breast are too small, vary in size and shape, or one or both breast fail to develop normally. Breast Augmentation is a cosmetic surgery that uses implants to enlarge and shape the breast. These implants are used to develop and give a woman a fuller and more voluminous breast. A woman who has made the decision to have this procedure needs to consider several things before she has the surgery. The first and most important decision to make is the surgeon. In making a decision on a surgeon it is important to do research, and check his or her credentials before making an appointment for the consultation. The second step in having this procedure done is to have a consultation with the doctor. During this consultation the doctor will discuss medical conditions, illnesses in the past, desires of the surgery, the cost of the procedure and the doctor will complete an exam. The doctor will discuss the procedure, and discuss options and all risk and complications of having the procedure done. The doctor will also discuss opinions on anesthesia

Page 3 and where the incisions will be made based upon the type and size of the implant. Once the doctor has discussed all of the necessary information for the surgery the final cost of the surgery will be determined.
