Discussion 1:
Describe what you have been taught about the relationship between
basic science research and technological innovation before this class. Have you been
told that it is similar to the linear model? Is your view of this relationship different after
studying this unit's lectures and readings?
The relationship between basic science and research & technological innovation both play a very
important role in our modern world of science and technology. While we may need technological
innovation more but not without basic science, we cannot work in innovation alone, there must be
some sort of science behind it as well. As we move forward in technology, there are many
breakthroughs which are helping in science and research to get things done at a faster rate and less
costly. Since my studying of this subject, my view on the relationship between basic science and
technological innovation is different. There cannot be one without the other.
