LAB 2 NOTE: These labs are known for high failure rates. Therefore, if I show an example using data, a graph, etc… yours may be totally different depending upon mine and yours success with the lab. So don’t freak if your data is completely different from mine. And therefore the analysis of results sometimes may need to be answered differently since you base your analysis off your data and not mine. DISCLAMIER: DO NOT CHEAT! 2A Procedure 1. I got +3/4 on this question. a. What is the enzyme in this reaction? Catalase. b. What is the substrate in this reaction? H2O2. c. What is the product in this reaction? H20 and O2. d. How could you show that the gas evolved is O2? Collect the O2 and add Hydrogen to see if the result is H2O. 2. …How does the reaction compare to the one using the unboiled catalase? Explain the reason for this difference. Boiled reacts a lot quicker compared to the unboiled because the enzymes are denatured.
