5.02 Firearm EvidenceIt is important that all evidence, such as marking the bullets and tagging firearms, beidentified.It is also a priority to make sure that all evidence is placed in the correct typeof container or bag, marked with the case information, initialed with name of the personcollecting the evidence, and the assurance that the chain of command is followed.Thisis very important because as an investigator you need to make sure that everything atthe crime scene that is possibly evidence and will help with the ability to find the suspectmust be found, pictured, tagged, and brought back to the laboratory.If a piece ofevidence is left behind or not found, it is a possibility that that could have been a keypiece of evidence.A consequence that might result if the correct procedures are notfollowed is that when you do find a suspect and take the case to court, the piece ofevidence that was not gathered correctly may not be admissible during the trial.A
