An acceptable equation of state for helium gas is given by the expression: aP PV RT bP T =−+ where a = 386.7 K-cm 3 /gmol and b = 15.29 cm 3 /gmol. (a) Compute the Joule-Thomson coefficient for helium at 150K and 15K. (b) Find the inversion temperature in Kelvins. (c) Estimate the temperature reached by helium in a throttling process from 24 atm and 15K to 1 atm. Assume that for helium C p = 5 cal/gmol-K and is constant. 3. Nitrogen at a pressure of 1500 psia and -100 ° F is contained in a tank of 10 ft 3 . Heat is transferred to the nitrogen until the temperature is 200 ° F. Determine the heat transferred and the final pressure of the nitrogen: (a) Using generalized correlations.
