Energy for the power stroke comes from ATP hydrolysis. The power stroke occurs when the release of the products of ATP hydrolysis (ADP and phosphate) are released from the myosin. The conformational change in myosin causes it to pull against the actin. The combined effect of many small power strokes causes the muscle to contract. There are many types of myosin proteins, not just in muscles. Myosin is involved in hearing, controlling tension in hearing apparatus; many other examples (see closer look 5-A). Different myosin types are similar (but not identical) in primary a.a. sequence and structure. The next intracellular fbers are microtubules . Tubes are more resistant to bending than solid rods (think of bicycle frames). Tubulin dimer (alpha & beta subunits). Growing microtubule....
