Transcendentalism - Transcendentalism was a group of new ideas in literature , religion , culture , and philosophy that emerged in New England in the early to middle 19 th century. civil disobedience - Civil disobedience is the active refusal to obey certain laws, demands, and commands of a government, or of an occupying international power. Jacksonian democracy - Jacksonian democracy is the political philosophy of United States President Andrew Jackson and his supporters. Lyceum system - The lyceum is a category of educational institution defined within the education system of many countries, mainly in Europe.
