Colin Fleming MGT 179 Week 2 Final Project – Topic Selection Recruitment and Marketing I have selected the topic of Recruitment & Marketing in order to better understand the methods in which companies are utilizing to complete staffing requirements. I am personally am just beginning a search to change companies and feel that this knowledge may help in my search. As far as probable informational sources are concerned, there are many resources. List those events and describe how they influenced the passage of various EEO Laws. The significant civil rights and women’s movements of the 1950’s and 1960’s had a large impact on the passing of the EEO Legislation. These movements had a profound influence on changing the attitudes of society at large, the business community, civic leaders, and government officials, resulting in improvements in the civil rights of all individuals. No longer was blatant discrimination to be accepted. Cite and describe the major federal laws and court decisions that affect the employment process of both large and small organizations. Equal Pay Act of 1963 – Equal pay for equal work Civil Rights Act of 1964 – Prohibits discrimination in employment on the basis of race Age discrimination in Employment Act of 1967 – Prohibits discrimination against people 40 and over Equal opportunity Act of 1972 – Amendment of Civil Rights Act of 1964. Strengthens EEOC’s enforcement powers Pregnancy Discrimination Act of 1978 – Broadens the definition of sex discrimination Americans with disabilities act of 1990 – prohibits discrimination in employment against people with physical or mental disabilities.
