Motown Video Smoky Robinson – was the 1 st major star, had the 1 st hit record in Motown o he became the number 1 executive vice president of Motown Berry Gordy – the founder of Motown o He had a good vision, organization, and creativity “Please Mr. Postman” helped start Motown o The artists were being paid for their albums by the radio stations so Gordy went national with the album and it became a #1 hit In the Motown recording industry the producers would come up with a song and have the different artists/groups perform it to them o The group that they thought played it the best would get the song o The Supremes at first were just seen as The Supremes but Gordy had a thing for Diana Ross so she became the focal point and they started getting a lot of the songs June 1985, Hall & Oates performed “My Girl” with David Ruffin and Eddie Kendrick (The Temptations) Maxiene Powell – started the Motown finishing school o She helped with the appearance of artists on stage
